Theatre Arts Blog: June 2021

Hello and welcome back!

Time has certainly flown since the last blog post and there is a lot going on! With all signs pointing to a successful reopening, the theatre community is vibrant and returning to pre-COVID normalcy. Here are some of the events coming up for the summer:

Bravo Boro is set to give us quite a season! Opening on July 30th, the group is set to debut their production of S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders! Tickets will be on sale through Bravoboro.com/ and will run through August 8th. Stay tuned in to all things Bravo Boro through their website and social media pages.

Of course, Bravo Boro is not the only theatre troupe at the Mills-Pate Art Center. Mark your calendars for July 9th, opening weekend for Consider This Theatre Company’s production of Neil Simon’s classic The Odd Couple! Go to www.considerthisinc.com/ to get your tickets and support this wonderful group of folks and their ministry. Consider This will also host auditions for Little Shop of Horrors on July 19th-21st, and more info can be found on the site as well.

Murfreesboro Little Theatre has quite a bit going on this month and next. If you’re looking to get back into community theatre, consider trying out for their upcoming play “Miss Nelson is Missing”, based off the children’s book. Auditions are tonight and tomorrow, starting at 6:30 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro. Also, MLT will be putting on The Laramie Project at The Walnut House starting July 8th-11th 7pm. Tickets are on sale now at mlt.com.

The next Smokes and Jokes Comedy Showcase will be held on July 12th at 8:30 at Liquid Smoke in Murfreesboro, but if a Monday nigh comedy show is hard to make, don’t worry! Mayday Brewery’s Comedy by the Pint made its triumphant return last month, and will be hosting more comedy shows through out the year. We will share the July date for that as well as other showcases in Rutherford County as they are announced.

For our last item of news, we are so excited to announce that all the groups above, as well as local radio show Count Drahoon’s Feature of Fright, E. Roy Lee of Murfreesboro M-Prov, and Radical Arts are coming together for one major showcase on November 12th at Oakland’s Mansion! We hope you will enjoy the first ever Theatre Crawl! What is a Theatre Crawl? Think of an art crawl, and how you have different artists set up in different locations. It’ the same premise with the theatre crawl, all your favorite theatre groups are spread out in different parts of Oakland’s performing their respective contributions at different intervals! As time goes on, we will be filling you in with more details.

That will do it for this month’s blog entry! We’ll see you in July!
