Join us online for our membership meeting on Tuesday, August 11 at 4:00 pm - tea time! In this event co-hosted by the Murfreesboro branch of the AAUW and the MTSU President’s Commission on the Status of Women, we’ll be celebrating the centennial of women’s suffrage. Bring a cup of tea or your favorite beverage and enjoy a lively, virtual discussion of Elaine Weiss’s, The Woman’s Hour: The Great Fight to Win the Vote, which chronicles the critical last six weeks of the battle for women’s right to vote in the Tennesseee State Legislature.
The book follows the activists who led the decades-long fight to grant women the right to vote and sheds light on how close the battle to ratify the 19th Amendment really was. The story celebrates those who changed history and laid the foundation for the civil rights movement that came decades later. Amblin TV (Steven Spielberg) has optioned the book for a TV mini-series or movie.

——
Member meetings are usually held on the second Tuesday of the month and are free and open to the public. Why not invite a friend? We make an effort to hold meetings at different times of day and (when we’re not virtual) different locations across Rutherford County to accommodate as many people as we can. We also want to showcase the breadth and depth of cultural heritage resources available.

If you would like to host a meeting later in 2020, please let us know. Once we resume physical meetings, the facility should be able to fit 50-60 people.
