We’re looking forward to seeing you at SoKidLit!

Thank you for registering your child(ren) for SoKidLit! (Not yet registered? Use this form.) We are so excited for this event! Here are all the latest details, including campus parking recommendations.

Location: MTSU College of Education Building, 1756 MTSU Blvd, Murfreesboro, TN 37132 | View on Google maps

Date: Saturday, May 14

Time: We encourage you to arrive for registration between 8:30 and 9:00. You'll be able to visit with book characters, BOB the bus, and other reading friends until the scheduled activities begin at 9:15 and end at 12:15. Authors will be available to sign books in the bookstore until 1:00 PM.

Where to park: The easiest way to get to the College of Education(COE) Building on MTSU Blvd., especially if you're not familiar with campus, is to enter campus from Rutherford Blvd. You can park in any green, white, or red area. The best parking will be in the Honors Parking Lot (see red star on this map), as it is the closest lot to the COE (College of Education) building where the conference is held. If the Honors Parking Lot is full, there will likely be spaces in the adjacent Bragg Parking Lot.

Quick list of what to bring (more details below):

  • Money to buy additional books

  • A snack from home (we'll have water & a prepackaged treat for each child)

  • Writing or illustrations that your child would like to share on the writers stage

What to expect: Children will be assigned to a suggested schedule to rotate through:

  • a talk by featured author Irene Latham

  • time in the writers & illustrators studio

  • time in an author mixer session with local authors

  • time in the bookstore & on the writers stage. Children can share their work-in-progress from the studio, or are welcome to bring stories, poems, and/or illustrations from home to share.

Cost: The festival is free--but you may want to bring cash or credit to buy additional books in the bookstore. Each pre-registered child in attendance gets a free book by featured author Irene Latham.

Siblings: While the festival is targeted at grades 3-5, we understand you may have to bring younger (or older) siblings. Some of you have already registered them, and that's fine! See the link below if you need to register an additional child.

Food: We will have water and prepackaged treats; feel free to bring your own snack if you think your child will need something additional. Nearby, the student union building (STU on the map) houses a food court with several restaurant options. Check out their website to see the hours for each restaurant.

Health & Safety: A guardian or chaperone should all accompany all children they bring to the festival for the entire time. Masks are not required, but we encourage all participants, authors, and volunteers to mask as their comfort and health requires.

If you know you can't make it: Help us plan and better stretch our budget by letting us know with a quick reply to this email!
